It’s the time of year when branding agencies get all Nostradamus trying to forecast the upcoming big trends. Silly, really. But, then again, it’s kind of fun. So here are our’s:

A 12-step Rehab Program for Social Media Junkies
Jonesing to pick up your iPhone at a family dinner? Can’t look your spouse in the eye any more? Are G-mail, Foursquare, Skype, Ping, Tumble and Facebook your new drug cocktail? You are not alone. We predict that treatment is on the way. Most likely, it will be online. Ironic, huh?

Attack of the Clone Tablets
Steve Job innovates and the rest of the world duplicates. We predict that 2011 will see an onslaught of iPad replicants. Rumor is that India is about to launch a tablet for under thirty-five bucks. This, plus an array of cheaper smartphones, takes us one step closer to constant 24/7 connectivity.

SMM = SEO
Marketing and PR have blended into one, seamless industry. Chances are, Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization will soon become one flesh. Facebook has overtaken Goggle in daily hits. If your brand isn’t engaging the social network your SEO will suffer. You watch.

The Revenge of Google
Google tried to out-social Facebook with their social network Buzz. Not so much. This year, we predict Google will focus on out-indexing Facebook and the other social networks. They already have a new algorithm that is doing a bang-up job indexing Twitter. If you can’t beat ‘em, index them.

Recruitment will go Social
The recruiter cold-call is done for. This year Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter will become recruiter’s biggest sources for qualified job candidates. Heck, look at the golden-throat homeless dude, Ted Williams. You may be just a YouTube video away from snagging your next big gig.
