At the F8 Developer’s Conference, Facebook® CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the new super-charged Facebook. And there is plenty here to “like,” especially if you are a marketing director, an entrepreneur or a branding agency looking for new ways to serve your clients.
1) Authentic Demographics Facebook’s new Timeline feature allows the Facebook® user to fine tune their profile information. Dynamic custom pages allow users to better communicate their story to the community at large. This cool feature will provide brands with more authentic demographics. As users augment their profile, we will get a better idea how they perceive themselves. Marketers will discover what the user truly likes and dislikes. No more having to rely only on surveys, focus groups, computer generated algorithms or wives’ tales. Timeline has the potential to turn personal, consumer communication into low hanging fruit for your brand.
2) Authentic Narratives Facebook® users can use the new Timeline to develop clear, compelling narratives of who they really are or at least how they want the world to view them. But weaving an authentic narrative isn’t limited to your average Facebook® user. With Timeline, brand pages can be created to offer a foundational story and help launch your next brand campaign.
3) App Opportunities This new format will gradually require brands from Denmark to Dallas to leverage themselves more inventively. There is also an excellent opportunity for app integration. A branding agency or marketer with a clever digital arts team can conjure ways to better share your brand with Facebook® friends and family through simple apps and widgets.
4) Instant Gratification Ticker, another Facebook® addition, has the potential to revolutionize the way customers are targeted by your brand. With the tidal wave of information it provides, marketers will get real time responses to campaigns they launch, and can tweak according to the desires of their target market.
