Over the last half-dozen years, Social Media has revolutionized the way we network and market our brands. But Social Media still has a few bugs to work out. The Harvard Business Review highlights five of them. Here are our top four:
Contact list overload. Facebook has yet to devise a way to sync up our friends and contacts from LinkedIn to Foursquare to Twitter to Facebook to Flickr. And while there are those of us who will choose to have discreet lists depending on the Social Media venue, it would definitely be nice to be able to consolidate our contacts to create a master list for all Social Media networks.
Search overload. This is a bigger issue. It seems that Google and Bing are totally clueless about my Twitter list, for instance.Isn’t there a marketing opportunity to match my search info with my social network interests? Goggle, get with it.
Information overload. We need some sort of genius RSS aggregator that can thin out the feeds to prioritize info based on relevance to our interests. I know. Easier said than done.
Then there is theproblem of privacy.
How do we create greater interactivity and synchronization across sites and still protect our information from cybervillains and spammers? I’m sure somebody will think of something. So, Social Media whiz kids, get crackin.’ Times a’wastin.’
