8 Ways to Optimize Your Google+ Page

3 MIN READ

You don’t have to be a mobile ad agency to know that Google+ can do wonders for your business. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Google+ is out to bury Facebook. It’s not a secret. Moving Google Places to Google+ is part of an overall Google strategy to add value to something that up until this past year has been a social media also-ran. Google+ will now play a major role in search rankings and results. Now, with Google+ totally replacing Google Places, social networking is likely to play an even greater role.

2. Add keywords to your business description. Populate your Google+ page with the most appropriate keywords. It makes all the difference. There is a greater chance that when potential customers search for products or services related to those keywords and areas of business you cater to, your business listing will crop up. Certain keyword phrases particularly help provide steady traffic to your Google+ page, and eventually your website. Just don’t overstuff the keywords. That can hurt your ranking.

3. Use standard categories to describe your business. Don’t get cute. Don’t customize. This is SEO suicide. Use standard category descriptions. You’re a barbershop, not a luxury hairstyle emporium.

4. Create a separate page for each location. For each Google+ page, list the local phone number and address, not your toll-free phone number. Using a post office box can cause Google to remove your page.

5. Never randomly add a keyword to your business’ name. If your business is called Western Pharmacy do not list it as Western Prescription Drugs Pharmacy on your Google+ page. Google is on the lookout for this sort of shenanigans.

6. Encourage reviews. Have your satisfied customers post a review to your Google+ listing, as well as Yelp, Citysearch and Tripadvisor. Recent reviews are great for your SEO value.

7. Regularly monitor your page. Log in to your account at least once a month to see what the top search queries are.

8. Hire a Mobile Ad Agency. Free can only take you so far. Hire a mobile ad agency to audit your Google+ page, and perform an SEO audit on your website. This will be money that is well spent.
