January Y Membership Campaign Delivers Results
For the past three years the Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth YMCAs have relied upon Dallas-based advertising agency, Agency Creative, to help generate membership recruitment. And, each year, we’re charged with the daunting task of cutting through the clutter of all the January weight loss and fitness ads.

Brand Strategy In the midst of a nationwide campaign to wipe out childhood obesity, Agency Creative and the area YMCAs decided to put the shoe on the other foot. We focused our membership campaign on healthy-looking kids telling their parents that it was time to shape up. The incentive for joining in January was a reduced joining fee that was as little as a dollar depending on how early a family signed up. The strategically focused campaign targets moms in the DFW Metroplex.
Television Short format television commercials feature kids of all ages diplomatically persuading their parents to get back in shape by joining the Y. The strategically targeted premium cable buy added television to the Y campaign arsenal for the very first time.
Radio Radio commercials features a public announcement for all grownups. Good news: the whole family can join the Y for as little as a dollar.
Outdoor Advertising Strategically located billboards around the DFW Metroplex feature little ones with bullhorns, training whistles and megaphones whipping their parents back into shape.
Digital Advertising A series of behaviorally targeted digital online banners and in-banner videos pinpoint DFW Metroplex grownups as they surf the web.
Promotional Site An interactive promotional website features a location finder and links to Social Media contests with a variety of cool prizes.
Results At the conclusion of the 5-week campaign, the local Y’s had signed up 5,626 new members.
